According to Josh, "Information technology is the application of computers and telecommunications equipment to store, retrieve and manipulate data, often in the context of a business or other enterprise. We commonly use IT as a synonym for computers and computer networks; however, IT is a vast career field with several opportunities available in several areas of specialization.”
Josh does a good job of explaining how to get started in the IT industry and suggests starting out in retail business, mom and pop repair shops, internships, and desk support for smaller IT firms. He follows up by giving examples of different companies where you can break into the industry. Although getting experience is important, he places an emphasis on certifications in your specialty of choice. Certifications in your specialty, keeps you abreast of any industry changes and shows your continued commitment to professional development. It increases your chances of getting employment and may increase your chances of higher compensation and promotions.
