Instructional Design Course Blends Real-World Experience, Giving Back

Students in Saint Leo’s culminating master’s-level course develop an instructional intervention for a local non-profit.

From day one of her online master’s degree program in instructional design (MSID) at Saint Leo University, Sarah Ledy was gaining real-world knowledge and skills.

In September, the 10-year high school English teacher put her knowledge and skills to work developing an instructional intervention for Take Stock in Children (TSIC), a non-profit organization in Florida that helps deserving low-income youth escape the cycle of poverty through education.

Instructional Design Program Enhances Veteran’s Civilian Career

An alumnus shares his experience as a student in Saint Leo's online MSID program.

It’s no surprise that the first project Tedd “Gunny” Weiser, a recent graduate of Saint Leo University’s online master’s in instructional design program (MSID), tackled using his new skills benefitted military veterans.

A veteran himself, Weiser retired from the U.S. Marines after 20 years of service. For a year, he acted as Saint Leo’s interim director of Veteran Student Services and is now assistant director at the Gwinnett Education Center in Georgia.

Redesigning Instructional Design Program To Boost Student Success

To ensure Saint Leo graduates are prepared to be successful in the growing field of instructional design, the program has been redesigned and new courses added to meet high-quality international standards.

The students in Keya Mukherjee’s Advanced Instructional Design class are all professionals working in a wide variety of fields.

One student, for example, works in the hospitality industry.

To complete an assignment to develop a prototype instructional product, she created a cross-cultural dining etiquette training course to help corporate executives understand the dining protocols of different cultures when conducting business internationally.
